Plogging Utrecht with Jeroen & Sjoerd
For this episode, Kevin and Wiebke are joined by Jeroen and Sjoerd from Plogging Utrecht, a local initiative that combines running with picking up litter. Twice a month, they head out with a group to run through different parts of Utrecht, collect trash along the way, and create more awareness around waste in public spaces.
What started as a simple idea between friends has grown into a visible movement, complete with green shirts, community runs, company events, trash-weighing, “catch of the day” finds, and a growing group of people who want to make Utrecht cleaner while staying active.
Together, they talk about how Plogging Utrecht started, why picking up trash can feel awkward at first, how they turned it into something fun and social, and what they have learned about waste, behaviour, supermarkets, packaging, and public responsibility.
The conversation also touches on sustainability, reusable cups, trash hotspots in Utrecht, energy drink cans, cigarette butts, and why small actions can have a bigger ripple effect than you might think.
A fun and practical conversation about movement, awareness, community, and doing something good for the city: one run and one trash bag at a time.
